The Tang Soo Do Class
The class sessions follow a standard format. They start with a warm up for the muscles
followed by some dynamic stretches. We then start the formal exercise with the twelve basics,
forms, and belt requirements. This alone is a workout and will give the student a good foundation for a personal home exercise regimen. The class will then be split into groups and will be assigned drills designed to help them develop the necessary skills to advance in rank. As you practice these drills, the instructor will be free to go from group to group and give individual attention as needed.
The classes are fun and interesting, but well disciplined. Discipline is not another word for punishment.
It is control over oneself or a power that you have to do what is right or necessary to achieve a just goal. With this kind of discipline in the class, the instructor will be able to see to the needs of each student. After developing this discipline, you will be able to transfer it outside the school and into your every day life. You will use it to achieve your goals outside of the martial arts. The instructor should be able to leave groups to practice without supervision, so that he may pay individual attention to each group or student.
Discipline is a part of courtesy and respect to the instructor and to fellow students.
PARENTS
This is the type of discipline that will help a child achieve good grades in school as well as enabling them to stick to a task even though it may not be fun. They will realize that with determination, and dedication they can achieve their goal, and that the goal once reached was worth all the work.
