Introduction

Dear students of Ron Little Martial Arts, I would like to personally welcome each one of you to our school. I say our school because that is exactly what it is. This school was founded for the students. It is geared to provide the most complete martial arts training program available at any price

Each person who studies the martial arts has a different goal. It may be to improve his\her physical condition or to improve self-discipline. It may be to gain self-esteem or learn self-defense. All of these goals share a common thought; personal improvement. Improvement is what the study of the martial arts is all about. The beginning of your martial arts career is the time to learn the process of setting and attaining goals, so you can enjoy all the benefits of training. Set a goal now. If you are not sure what goal to set talk to your instructor. You must set a goal and try to reach it. I am not only your instructor but also your guide. You must do the hard work for your own accomplishment and in doing so you will receive benefits you never expected

As you attend classes regularly you will prepare for periodic testing to achieve progressively higher rank. These ranks are signified by colored belts. There are nine belt colors in this system:

  1. White - the seed (pupil) from which tall trees grow.
  2. Yellow - the sun (instructor) that shines on the seed to encourage it's growth.
  3. Orange - is the morning sun the tree sees when it sprouts.
  4. Green - the growth (knowledge) as it begins to take hold.
  5. Blue - water, and the thirst for more knowledge.
  6. Purple - is the heart of the tree as it becomes strong.
  7. Brown - the earth (art) the plant is now rooted in.
  8. Red - the blossom of a plant in full bloom.
  9. Black - the heavens a mature tree reaches for.

The beginning student often considers the black belt to be the ultimate goal, but successful martial artists know that this is only the beginning. They know that they have mastered the basics needed for training. Advanced abilities and techniques are a result of continuous training after reaching the first black belt level. The many benefits of the martial arts will multiply as you continue to build on your ability

Compare the study of martial arts to a journey around the world... The joy is in the journey not the destination.

This orientation manual will acquaint you with our organization's general policies and procedures and answer many of your questions. Please take the opportunity to meet with your instructor who is committed to your success and will be pleased to answer additional questions and to help you achieve your goals.

Here at RLMA we teach a number of martial arts. This manual is dedicated to the study of Tang Soo Do. You are encouraged to focus on one martial art to the rank of Black Belt.
